|
|
Just jacked my car up and put it on stands, took the rear wheels off to adjust the rear linings and have a look around the trans. I notice there's a 1" or so hole open into the side of the trans, above and forward of the filler hole. With a flashlight I can see a bit of the linkage, and in Haynes P. 152 it shows that I'm looking at the shaft and shaft connecting sleeve. Surely there should be a bung of some sort over this hole to keep dust and crap out? Do you suggest I get a metal bung or just glue a rubber grommet in there? Is there a part number for this bung? TIA. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

jpab..don't really. Freeze or frost plugs I thought are usually metal caps that are hammered/glued into casting holes in the block. I'm sure originally the trans had a metal cap too. A rubber plug will be better than nothing I guess.. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

Relax Joe..I think this hole is so you can separate the drive shaft when you pull yr trans, but I might be wrong. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)

I think jpab might be referring to something like one of these - http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/smoothies931pics/detail?.dir=341f&.dnm=f1e2.jpg&.src=ph
-can usually be found at a hardware store, most likely near the plumbing stuff. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

"cap" part number 477.521.177 should have been in there originally. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Thanks for the part number Smoothie..I found a rubber grommet that fitted fine so that'll do for now. _________________ '82 924 NA Euro (hers)
