While looking for vacuum leaks today I pulled on the crankcase vent hose near the rear of the block and it broke off in my hand.
The hose came away with the restrictor in it and left a short piece behind.
Is this restrictor necessary?
Can I replace this hose without it or is the genuine part vital?
Also found other problems but should have no queries with them.
The car is Euro/Row spec.

Yep it'll do that.
Mine went hard and crack then broke off. I believe 3/4" heater hose works well without the restrictor. As the right angle metal tube that comes off the ufo is that size. That other bit is a waste I rekon as I ditched mine a while ago and havent looked back.
Not as bad as what I did though....
In attempting to fix a broken manifold stud (bottom of the manifold, top of the downpipe) I managed to break off every stud getting off the exhaust, drilled out every stud as the extractor was useless and preceded to tap the holes out when in doing the last hole, broke off the tap inside.
Now irony would have been braking it off in the same hole as I had the origional stud broken off in but alas it was not and the whole ordeal cost me two days of frustration.
If anyone knows how to drill out a tapp I would be most appreciative.
Good luck with the hose.

Oww!. Haven't broken a tap in years but I remember the pain of removal.
Sometimes needle nose pliers will get it out without drilling. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Depends on if you have a good tool store near by or not. They make special tools to remove broken taps. Or you might be able to make something work.

Taps are generally made of really, really, really, really hard steel and eat even nitrided drill bits for breakfast.
Try snap ring pliers. Sometimes you can get the tips in beside the flat side of the tap and unscrew it out.
Good luck!! |

You can also try using penetrating oil and letting it soak for a day or 2 and then using a small drift and a small hammer to rotate the tap backwards. Getting it to move the first slight bit is the hardest. Be gentle!

Well due to the vacuum setup on the Euro spec cars/ no canister, without the restrictor you lose all vacuum to the brake booster.
Got good vacuum and acceleration now but can't stop. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA
