Well I have developed a strange problem; I had been having problems with my headlights not lowering down every time so I traced it down to a loose wire to the switch, all good now I thought. But no now once in a while my wipers will make one pass, it is really strange, it will do it sometimes not every time, when I signal, break, on start up, when I go from hi to low beam, but it doesn’t do it every time, just once in a while, that is what is strange? anyone have any idea what would cause this, I have checked everything over good and cant find any thing out of order, also all the grounds were just cleaned? So beats me?

Oh I have another question about getting the 931 smog tested, I am due here soon, but I am worried that they might not like my fm ic, because it is not stock, anyone have a problem with this? All my hoses are connected and everything just as stock, but the ic pipes don’t look stock? I am in CA so I am thinking they are going to be hard on modifications and because of all the ricers around here?

Do a search for "wipers". The occasional wipe is usually due to a bad earth.

You will need to pull apart the steering column & clean the ground points & the connectors in there. My wiper problem persisted until I did that.

Mine have been doing that since I got the car. And I've pulled the steering column about 4 times now to sand the copper contacts...Even though they're still shiny now. I'm not sure what else to do? Do you think it could be down in the switch itself even?

i am not sure, i guess it could be the switch? yeah i have already cleaned ALL the grounds, but i guess it wouldnt hurt to check them and do this again. This is just strange because it has never done this before. It started right after i messed with the headlight switch to fix a loose wire the other day. so maybe it is the switch that is the problem?

You need to go deeper into the steering column & you'll find a multi-pin connector in there. Pull this apart & clean the spade contacts. I had also cleaned the grounds under the steering wheel several times without curing the "phantom wiper" problem. Cleaning the connector is what finally fixed it.

Yep you were right, grounds in steering column, cleaned them all off and the annoying wiper problem went away. So if anyone has intermittent wipers that go on when switched off, clean the grounds. I was thinking about going and cleaning all the main ground connector points one more time, than go back and soldering them all on, then you wouldn’t have to go and clean then all the time? Has anyone tried this?

In California you may add and/or replace an intercooler without penalty...it's near the end of the smog manual, you may ask to see it if they try to fail you. Also do a little searching on CA Vehicle Code if you are concerned about passing the Visual. The main thing is have all of the factory air intake tubing and hoses connected, that way there is no other elements that you can be dinged on.

I'm about to smog my 931 next week, I will take it back to have it analyzed at my shop before the inspection. Get the cat nice and hot, run the lowest octane possible for your application and use a high-quality fuel like Chevron or Union 76. Good luck!

thanks, yeah everything is all hooked up just like stock. I hope it will pass, i go in next week, i think i am going to get a per test to make sure. It passed with flying colors last time, in fact the guy couldnt believe how low the numbers were. So i think i will pass with no problem.
