some of you may remeber my last attempt at owning a 924 ( or any porsche for that matter)for ice racing , that dream fell apart, long story short , the car was in really bad shape and i built a 84 scirocc instead , now it turns out i maybe be trading my daily use vanagon for some bucks plus a 58 vw kombi, which im happy about!, but i will no lomger have a daily ride till yesterday a 82 924 cross my patch with the m471 option , and at a good price, my qustion is can a car like this be used for year round daily use? i live in a cold climate , also im quite use to cis , and other old german car woes  _________________ 80 924 ( m471)

The "newer" 924's had better rust protection than the first ones but your car is over 20 years old, I'm sure salt and all that moisture will take it's tool every winter. I would have it undercoated very well, every nook and cranny, doors, rear hatch, everything.
Also, it may let more cold air in than newer cars and may not warm up as fast or as hot on the interior. And I think with very cold weather, the car will be more fussy.
I don't drive my car in the winter, it's a 77 and I just don't want it to get worn down by driving in salt and the wet for 5 or 6 months. And remember kiddies, it can take a couple of months for 99% of the salt to be washed off the roads. |

Winter driving in general or the 924?
I haven't driven minein the snow, so I can't go there. Just take it easy and don't make it easy for others to crash into you.
Just remember to slow down enough before the turns and brake in a straight line. |

Mate, if the price is right and the car is good, buy it! The M471 option seems to be much sought after and being an '82 it's pretty much the newest of the series, without going to an "S" (I assume it's the Turbo, if it's got the M471 option?)
Anyway, as a daily driver, it depends entirely on the condition of the car/engine. I'm sure it'd be fine provided the car's in good mechanical condition.
On the other hand, it's more than twenty years old, so expect some problems! But as long as you're handy with the spanners, it's probably nothing you can't handle yourself.
Can't vouch for their performance in really cold weather, though. Down here, it just doesn't snow! In fact, it's the dead of winter and the air temp won't even drop below freezing in the middle of the night. It gets up around 20 C during the day! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

The biggest problem with driving 76 to 82 924 cars in the winter is the LOUSY Defroster.
On the other hand, the later 924S cars have wonderful defrosters. |
