I checked www.AdvanceAutoParts.com and www.napaonline.com for the smaller early '80's Mustang clutch. They both show an '84 Mustang L4-2.3L clutch disc as 8 1/2"-23-1", so the diameter's a less than perfect match for the 931's 8-7/8". An '82 Mustang L6-3.3L uses an 8 7/8"-10-1" disc, so in that case the diameter is correct, but the number of splines is ng. Long story short - looks like the Bronco II is still the only exact match.

I have been running the bronco clutch in my 931 for a bit over a year now. No issues, but I don’t abuse it too much.

Whoaaa there. The 87 924S is a completely differenct animal from any 924. The only fellow I know who has tried the Bronco clutch on a 944 said the center/springst just barely did not clear and a LOUD racket ensued when he started the car. Visual inspection said it should have fit; but must have been off just enough.
The Bronco disk is ONLY FOR THE 931, or other 924 that have been modified with non-stock drivetrains.
So, while I would love to see someone else try the experiment again to confirm; the only confirmed test so far was a bust. Its a cheap enough experiement as these things go. If you try it on a 944/924S let us know how it goes. My buddy may have just done someting wrong.
Not that anyone cares; but it gets really aggravating to ACTUALLY BUY THE PART and PUT IT ON A CAR and TEST IT. Then publish the part numbers with application and STILL folks blithely push all kinds of speculative BS without even accurately differentiating which car the stuff is for!

Finally got ahold of Mr. Sanders and everything should be here in 10 days.
Not the most informed shop but I guess it will work for now.
The problem now is, I may not need the clutch....  |

I'm putting a 23x1"x8.5" Mustang disc in my 924 tonight, using the 924 cable clutch and a G31, no problems so far. That's also the setup I pulled from my parts car, although it looked to have taken a beating there. One of the pressure plate bolts had come off, and the friction material on the disc was loose around all of the rivets on both sides.

Those seem like wicked deals! It could have saved me 200 bucks on the clutch.

I did. Cost me 1 penny plus about $28 shipping. Haven't installed it yet but it looks just fine. Brand new. It's a Beck-Arnely (sp?)brand so maybe someone else has one and can give some feedback.

How do you know if you need a new pressure plate? this looks like a good price maybe i should pick one up but how do i know if i need a new one.

Unless you have trouble shifting, or hear a noise when pushing in the clutch or perhaps the engine revs move a bit when you put it in and take it out, you won't know. It's a lot of work to check it. If you can find adeal, grab it and wait for the tell tail signs I guess. |

apparently a 911sc clutch plate fits the GT - ask johnH!
therefore this should fit the 924
