Nice Paul,
I left home on Friday for a day with the wife prior to the Parade. Cameras loaded, extra clothes, rain gear etc in the back of the turbo. Made it as far as Pocono Raceway when the car started missing. I decided to return home. Not a good decision at that time of day. Got half way home and hit massive traffic. Decided to take the single lane to the George Washington Bridge. Wrong. Car died in a single lane with cars all around me. Let the car cool off and started again for about 200 yds. Died again. No power under load. Finally cops came and I got towed home the remaining 50 miles. Cost $350. I would have spent the same over the weekend. Anyone know what happened to my car. It will idle but under load it has no power. Me, I think it is 1. blown head gasket, 2. fuel pump.
It will run after cool down.
Sorry I missed you Paul. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

I had a similar problem with the 931 on the way back from Funfest. It started with a miss at 2500 rpm. If I kept the rpm above 3000 it ran ok. The miss steadily got worse over the miles and the car finally died and wouldn’t start about 45 miles from home. I replaced the fuel pump relay with a jumper and it ran fine. Of course I suspected the fuel pump relay. I did not have a spare on hand so I replaced the jumper with a toggle until the part came in. When the part arrived I happily plugged it in and went for a test drive. Didn’t get two blocks before the symptoms were back. When I use the jumper it runs fine, it will not run properly with the relay.
I have not tried to find the cause, but plan to soon.
Some side notes, when this first started if I stopped for a wile it would run fine for 10 min or so. Then the miss would come back. The miss seemed like water in the gas or starvation for gas. As I was driving during this time I reached under the dash to see if the relay was hot. The relay was pulsing, (engaging, disengaging rapidly) Don, Stan and Tom checked theirs at the same the only other one pulsing was Tom’s and his had a miss as well. Tom and Don was driving 924’s Stan and I had 931’s.
Hope this helps, sorry for the long explanation. At least I didn’t start with “in the beginning” _________________ 1980 931

Adam had a 924. Eve got sick of him always under the hood fixing it. She ran off with a snake, got nabbed and the two of them got booted and MADE to take the 924, just for extra punishment. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Vince sorry you had trouble and didn't make it. Did the rally today, it was a nice drive through the mountains and valleys North of Hershey. Just got back from a dinner of Maryland Crabcakes and Yuengling beer.... _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

I assumed you had mounted a clamp on the roll cage for such an occasion.... _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Got back from Parade yesterday. Now getting the 924 ready for the PCA Club Race @ Gingerman this weekend.
Drove the 924 to and from (475 miles each way). Not very comfy in a race seat but we made it. Did have the AC working to make the trip bearable.
Parade was GREAT. Never seen so many Porsche's in one place.
Put the 924 in the Parade Car show. Were two 924s, mine and a Holbert 924. Ran the rallye in novice class and had alot of fun.
Had a young man from the Marshall Islands attend in his 944. Parked next to us in the car show. Had his car shipped to California and drove it across to Pa.
Overall Parade was great and hope to attend again. |
