|
|
I have a 84 944 fog light switch which I plan on installing on my 924S with an aftermarket lights. There are 6 conductors on the switch, each individually labeled. They read: K, 83, 58b, 31, S, and 55 NS.
Does anyone know what these labels correspond to?
If it helps, the part # is: 944 613 111 00
Thanks |

I have the information you need somewhere, because I wrote a magazine article for publication in PCA PANORAMA magazine around 15 years ago that detailed how to install foglights in a 924 using the foglight wiring Porsche built into every wiring harness, along with the part numbers for the switch, relay, and switch adapter harness (wiring harness part that plugs into the fuse box, includes fuse contacts for plugging into an used location in the aux fuse panel, wires that run to the switch, and connect to the main harness under the dash). There is already a wire left in the harness under the dash for the 12V power wire that sits unconnected in the engine compartment near where the harness enters the engine compartment from the interior by the brake vacuum booster. That wire is designated to be the 12V+ positive wire for the foglights, and you run the 2nd wire on each foglite to Ground (I ran mine to the main Ground Point on the left front corner).
I will take a look around for the original manuscript for the magazine article, and leave another message if I can find the information. |

| THAT's what that wire is for! I've been wondering. |

Actually there are a couple of wires sitting there.
Another of them is for the hood switch for the alarm system.
On the sound deadening sheet on the firewall, on the upper edge, close to the vaccum booster, if you look closely, you will see a kinda square section (actually a rectangle shape if you see the count the part on the top edge, and the part that runs down the firewall) outlined with raised dots.
This is the area of the sound deadening sheet that is broken out to fit the bracket for the factory alarm system hood switch. One of the loose wires plugs into the back of the factory alarm switch and terminates inside the car under the dash where it can be connected to the factory (or an aftermarket) alarm system. This is one of the ways that I minimized alterations to the wiring harness when connecting my Clifford System without drilling any holes, and a minimum of wire cutting. |

| I just installed my fog light switch. Had the fog light harness attached to the switch. Also had a 16 amp fuse in location 15 for the fog lights. My question is, what type of relay is needed for the fog light switch's green light to work? I tried getting the little green light to turn on with a 12V and 24V relay in location 8, no luck. Do the fog lights have to be present and installed for the green light to come on? |

Without taking the time to look up the circuit diagram, if I remember correctly, the headlights must be switched on in the low beam position, as well as the foglight switch, and the relay installed, because the relay coil gets it's power from the headlight switch, and the green lamp in the foglight switch will only light when the foglights are enabled.
Many of the relays are actually wired the same way. The difference in many cases is only the amount of current (amps) that the contacts are rated to handle.
Believe it or not, there is a Bosch relay that is used as a standard type relay for many aux light systems, and car alarms. Most foglight systems use 55W bulbs so relay contacts rated at 20A to 25A should be fine. I think a the 924 uses the same relay for a couple of functions, so if you have a spare, it should work fine for the foglight relay. I think this may be the cooling fan and vent fan relay. Otherwise, try a stereo installed for an "alarm relay" If he shows you a Bosch relay, and it is rated 20A-25A or higher, then you're golden. |
