Resolved.
The vacuum hose leading from the vacuum actuator (?) to the connector sheath inside top back of the engine bay was disconnected. Plugged it back in and bingo!

For clarification, 'on the left' means driver's side?

Already up on ramps and sensor being dosed with penetrating oil.
