Could you post a pic of your ignition unit? I've had issues with mine, but I am puzzled by your description of a distinct heatsink (yes, I know what heatsink compound is).

Yeah, I thought $12k was awfully ambitious. I might ask for $8k, then, and be prepared to come down. It has a few options (e.g. power windows) which might help.

Sounds like the backlight illumination for the headlight switch. That is one of the few dashboard lights that is always on when ignition is on.

I've been down the road of alternator not charging. I feel your pain.

The main ground strap from the block to the body is over near the coil.

Standard voltage on original alternator is 13.5V or ...
