hey guys just wondering how you can upgrade an old 1977 kjet unit to a unit from 1982? it seems to all fit, except for this one lead where i dont know where it is ment to go to?

also on my old fuel pump connected to the bottom there is a round black thing... any idea what this may be? like a fuel filter or sumthin? also would i be needing to buy a new Fuel Pump Check Valve ??
