Are you thinking of replacing the torque converter with a clutch or having a clutch in additon to the torque converter...? Or have I got that completely wrong?

I've never been convinced by the self-adjusting mechansims on drum brakes.

I'd stick with the manual adjusters. At least that way you can do them up just right and know they're done.
